Woodgreen v. Totton & Eling Sat 20th July 2019
By Dave Naish
Bad day for the bowlers!
Woodgreen won the toss and on a drying wicket after previous days and overnight rain decided to bowl and had Totton 9 for 2 in the 8th over with both openers out, then after 13 overs were 18 for 2. The Visitors recovered with 2 stands - a 102 run 3rd wicket stand between Kumodak Sharma (73) and Gayan Laksmitha (46) then a 62 stand for the 4th wicket between Sharma and Tom Cheater (30) taking the score onto 173 for 4 from 38 overs. Six late wickets fell for 24 runs in 5.3 overs before finishing on 205 for 9 wickets from 45 overs. Woodgreen's opening bowlers doing the early damage were Jay (1 for 22 from 9 overs - first spell 1 for 11 off 6) and Jason (1 for 8 from 9 - first spell 1 for 6 off 7) but as has been the problem all season no main 1st change bowlers. Other wickets takers were Pete (3 for 43 from 9), Renners (2 for 36 from 7), Matt (1 for 38 off 5 - but with a magical ball to bowl Laksmitha for his first wicket for the club) and Ankit (1 for 16 off 2).
After losing an early wicket Woodgreen's reply recovered with a 2nd wicket stand of 37 between opener Russell (17) and Stuart (20) but only 3 other batsmen reached double figures - Renners (23), Andy (19) and Pete (21) so all five got starts but no one went on to make the big score needed. From 71 for 4, six wickets fell for 50 runs to be all out for 121 from 29.2 overs. Demetrius Adams (4 for21) and Gayan Laksmitha (4 for 44) doing the damage.
