By Dave Naish
Not quite enough runs again!
Woodgreen 195 all out lost to Verwood 196 for 5 by 5 wickets.
Woodgreen won the toss in their Hampshire League division 3 south game at home to Verwood in Saturdays heat wave and decided to bat and got off to the worst possible start losing their first 2 wickets for 4 runs. The innings recovery was built around opener Jon , with 70 from 102 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. He shared a 57 run 3rd wicket stand with Guy (23) and 79 for the 4th with Renners- who continued his good form for the season with 50 - his first for the club. Jon was 4th out at 140 in the 31st over, the innings then lost its momentum with only Andy P (26) reaching double figures as just 55 runs were scored in the last 15 overs to be all out in the last over at 195. Verwoods main wicket taker was Ali Gajic with 5 for 25.
Verwoods reply started briskly with an opening stand between Jayme Underwood (14) and Luke Hancock (52) putting on 46 in 11.3 overs. Jack Musselwhite also scored 52 in a vital stand for the 4th wicket taking the score onto 160, the innings slowed down as the home side fought back taking the game into the 42nd over before the winning target was reached at 196 for 5 from 41.2 overs. 17 year old Ed Nash bowled well taking 2 for 38 from 9 overs and other wicket takers were Jason (1 for 25 off 9) and Renners (1 for 31).
