Hayling Island v. Woodgreen Sat 1st June 2019
By Dave Naish
Another bad day at the office!
Woodgreen travelled to Hayling Island in their Hampshire league south Division 3 match and lost
for the 4th time this season.
With a very weak team through injuries, holidays and other commitments the home side won the toss and decided to bat and Woodgreen had them 48 for 3 wickets after 15 overs but a change of bowling had to be made with several bowlers missing the innings was rebuilt around two stands, 89 for the 4th wickets between Mike Lever and Gary Martin who both scored 79 in 12 overs, then 110 for the 5th wicket by Martin and Matt Hayes (62 not out) in 15 overs taking the score onto 247 for 5 from 42 overs. A 3rd bowling point was gained for the innings to end on 262 for 6 wickets after 45 overs. Woodgreens wicket takers were Jay (2 for 29 off 9 overs), Dave N (1 for 30 from 3), Ed Nash (1 for 41 off 5) and Skipper Pete (1 for 51 from 9), even though wicket less Jason's 9 overs went for only 24 runs.
Woodgreens reply started badly losing Guy in the first over and struggled to 54 for 5 from 14 overs with only Russell (15) and Jason (11) reaching double figures. Even though the run rate was well above Haylings wickets kept falling, it only fell behind after the 25th over. The innings did recover with Renner's scoring a well made 43,adding 45 for the 6th wicket with Ed (2). A third batting point was reached at 126 but WCC were all out after 35.5 overs. Ginse George
- playing his first game made 11 and the total was helped with 20 wides.
