Poem by Dave and Pauline

Back in April the season began,
For the ‘cricket force weekend’
Armed with a more than willing gang,
And some money at Jewson’s to spend.
‘We weren’t expecting that!’

We were grateful to Jim for the use of his Van,
But soon in the mud he got stuck
Couldn’t go forward and couldn’t go back,
Till Pete towed him right out of the muck!
‘Jim wasn’t expecting that!’

We did our best to keep games on,
Pitch protection with weighed down tarpaulin
But struggling to get them off in high winds,
Pete and Dave nearly ended up in Cadnam!
‘We weren’t expecting that!’

The crowds turned out for the band concert,
Beautiful sunset and good music to enjoy.
But the star of the show with a cheeky smile,
Was a dancing, ginger haired little boy!
(Well done Henry) ‘We weren’t expecting that!’

Our Gord does a great job with the 100 club,
The draw on the last Thursday of every month at the pub.
But where was Gord on Thursday the 25th June?
For the first time ever he forgot to turn up!
‘We weren’t expecting that!’

Would it be wet or dry? Either way the Harding’s barbie was on,
Luckily the rain cleared away and great was the enjoyment.
Particularly the kids- Laurence, Steve, Stuart and Rich,
And we’ve voted that it’ll be an annual event!
‘Julia and Alan weren’t expecting that!’

The last game at Paultons - the nightmare scenario,
On course for a win but the rain abandon’s play.
A win to Woodgreen looks on the cards - but no,
Duckworth Lewis intervenes and it becomes Paultons day!
‘We weren’t expecting that!’

This season is one for the record books,
Every single league game was played.
There were lots of wet weekdays and Sundays
But the weather turned fine every Saturday!
‘We weren’t expecting that!’

So despite losing more than we won,
We’ve always still managed to have fun.
So thank you to everyone who’s part of the team,
As there’s no better place to be at than Woodgreen.
‘We were expecting that!’
